SUMMARY:Minute Man National Historical Park Memorial Weekend Event
DESCRIPTION:Minute Men to Minute Men\nNorth Bridge Visitor Center\nSaturday\, May 24\n10am – 4:30pm\nAs we launch into the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution\, Minute Man National Historical Park is working on programs that not only tell the story of the revolution but how it impacted the development of the United States. \nIn the spring of 1861\, President Abraham Lincoln put out a call for volunteers to suppress the secessionist rebellion brewing in the south. As a result\, thousands of men from local communities like Concord\, Acton\, and Lowell answered the call as “Minute Men.” \nShockingly on April 19\, 1861\, the 6th Regiment of Massachusetts Volunteer Militia (Minute Men) came under attack by a secessionist mob while transferring trains in Baltimore\, Maryland. In a brutal melee the secessionist killed five militiamen and wounded 36 others. Overall\, the battle resulted in the death of twelve Baltimoreans. These casualties are often cited as the first combat casualties of the American Civil War. For many of the Massachusetts soldiers\, the symbology of their first combat experience occurring on the same day their grandfathers started the revelation was poignant. \nSchedule of Events:\n10:00 am~ Artifacts of the Pratt Street Riot and Living History at North Bridge Visitor Center *Ongoing throughout the day.\n10:00 am~ Uniforms and equipment of the 6th Massachusetts Volunteer Militia\n11:00 am~ The Radicalization of Massachusetts 1859-1861\n1:00 pm~ The Pratt Street Riot: Battlefield in a Box\n2:00 pm~ Minute Men of 1775 to Minute Men of 1861 *Musket Firing Demonstration*\n3:00 pm~ From Annapolis to Bull Run: The Massachusetts Volunteer Militia\n4:30 pm~ Event Ends

SUMMARY:Urinetown the Musical May 2-17
DESCRIPTION:The Concord Players presents Urinetown the Musical…a slightly different type of Revolution! \nIt’s a dark time in a dark city\, where a 20-year drought has led to severe water restrictions — including a ban on private toilets. Fee-based public toilets are controlled by the evil Urine Good Company\, which is gleefully gouging huge profits off a very basic human need. In all this wasteland\, can a golden-throated hero arise who has the heart\, the hope\, and the pipes to lead the people to freedom? \nWinner of multiple Tony awards\, Urinetown the Musical is an irreverent satire\, whose sharp wit and non-stop humor present us with the endlessly comic side of unchecked capitalism\, corporate mismanagement\, and social irresponsibility. \nPerformances: May 2\, 3\, 9\, 10\, 16 & 17 at 8:00 pm and May 4 & 11 at 2:00pm \nat The Performing Arts Center\, 51 Walden Street\, Concord\, MA \nFor Tickets and more information: concordplayers.org or call 978-369-2990

SUMMARY:The Concord Players’ present Urinetown
DESCRIPTION:A slightly different kind of revolution will take place in historic Concord with The Concord Players’ production of Urinetown the Musical! It’s a dark time in a dark city\, where a 20-year drought has led to severe water restrictions – including a ban on private toilets. Public pay toilets are controlled by the evil ‘Urine Good Company’\, which is gleefully gouging huge profits off a very basic human right: the privilege to pee. Despite the title\, this multiple Tony Award winner is an irreverent satire\, whose sharp wit and non-stop humor presents the endlessly comic side of unchecked capitalism\, corporate greed and social irresponsibility. Urinetown takes a modern approach to examine the concept of a revolution with this road to freedom paved with catchy music\, flashy dance sequences and witty comedy. Performances: May 2\, 3\, 9\, 10\, 16 & 17 at 8:00 pm and May 4 & 11 at 2:00 pm Tickets: $28. with reserved seating \nVisit: www.concordplayers.org

SUMMARY:Concord250 Event: Concord Chorus Concert “Ernest Bloch: Sacred Service”\, subtitled: “Together in the Light”
DESCRIPTION:The Concord Chorus Spring Concert will take place at St.Camillus Parish Church\, 1185 Concord Turnpike\, Arlington (formerly Menotomy in Revolutionary America) right along the path of British soldiers in their march to Lexington and Concord in April of 1775.\n\nContinuing our emphasis on British and American composers still heard ’round the world\, the concert will feature the music of two modern American composers\, who happen to be teacher and student. The student was Randall Thompson\, whose essential Alleluia\, Ye Shall Have a Song\, and The Last Words of David will serve as a prelude to a major work by one of his teachers\, the Swiss-American composer Ernest Bloch. Bloch’s beautiful\, expansive\, and moving Sacred Service is an artistically revolutionary setting of the Jewish liturgy for the Sabbath. These two composers’ works illustrate the progression from the British traditions and styles the Chorus sang in its Winter Concerts\, as well as the inclusion of all faiths and philosophies seeking peace\, unity\, and joy. In this music\, audiences will experience two American composers who are groundbreakers and standard-setters in the development of contemporary choral music: music that will still be heard ’round the world for many years to come.

SUMMARY:Patriots of Color Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Saturdays\, 1:30pm Tours \nMarch 22\, 2025 – June 30\, 2025 \nBetween twenty and forty colonists who fought along the Battle Road on April 19\, 1775\, were of African descent or Indigenous people. Although excluded from required militia service prior to the war\, these individuals of color were the first of many to take up arms between 1775 and 1783. \nBy the end of the conflict\, an estimated 5\,500 African and Indigenous  men served on the colonial side. Unfortunately\, systemic racism and historical bias have erased or buried many records of Black and Indigenous people who played a prominent role in the founding of the United States. In this 90 minute walking tour we will examine the known history and stories of these Patriots of Color who fought for freedom locally both during the American Revolution and beyond. Minuteman National Park\, Robbins House and Concord Visitors Center staff will lead this tour examining the incredible stories of individuals who risked everything during their struggle for liberty\, equality\, and freedom for all.\n\nTour meets at the North Bridge Lower Lot.  All ages are welcome. Free from March 22-June 30\, 2005.\n\nThis walking tour  is  co-sponsored by Minuteman National Park\, The Robbins House\,  and The Concord Visitors Center as a Concord250 Event and is funded by the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism.\n\nDonations in support of Black History Month in Concord may be made to The Robbins House here:  https://robbinshouse.org/donate/\n\nLearn More about Patriots of Color HERE\n\nhttps://robbinshouse.org/wp-content/uploads/PatriotsofColor-web.pdf\n\nhttps://www.nps.gov/mima/patriotsofcolor.htm
